Activate the plugin by clicking on the “Activate” link. Now, let’s go through its settings!

Ninja PopUps Settings

After you activated the plugin, a new menu will appear in the sidebar of your administration called “Ninja Popups”. What a surprise 🙂

When you first install a plugin in WordPress it’s best to go through its settings page (if there is one). The Ninja Popups main setting page looks like this:

Ninja Popups

Here you can enable or disable the entire plugin, decide whether you want it to display popups on mobile devices or if you want it to connected to Google Analytics.

You can also set the popup display for arriving and leaving visitors, and which pages the popups should appear.

The Mailing lists

One of the most imoprtant options here is the “Mailing List Manager”. Here you can connect your popups to various email marketing services. Please note that in order to successfully set up this option, you must have an account with one the supported mailing list providers. This may be a bit confusing at first for newbie users since you’ll be required to gather some extra information from these service providers as well.

For example, if you want to add your MailChimp list to Ninja PopUps, you will need to acquire the Mailchimp API key. If you want to get a Mailchimp API key, log in to your Mailchimp account and go to “Account => Extras => API keys” then click on the “Create a key” button and copy the long character string it will create. Once you grabbed the key go back to your WordPress admin and add it to your Ninja Popups settings. It will look something like this:

It might be a little bit different with other service providers but the concept is the same.

Let’s create a popup!

If you want to create a new popup, click on the “Add new popup” link in the menu. First of all, add a title to the new popup. If you look through the page, you can see that the customization options are endless. If you are not comfortable with tweaking the settings, you can select one of the pre-designed theme or you can create your own pop up from scratch using HTML.

Here you can change the appearance of the popup. Chenage the width, hight or color, or add custom fields. You can upload background image, or add video. You have complete control over your popup.
